Associated Press gets heavy handed - bloggers retaliate

The blogosphere bites back. The Associated Press took offense when some poor blogger quoted a few words of an AP story in his blog and asked for some money over unfair use of article excerpts and charged $2.50 per word. Michelle Malkin, who only gets 244,000 visits a day to her blog, has noticed that the AP has nicked some of her work without paying for it. She is apparently owed $132,125 on the AP pay scale. Ka ching-ching-ching.

AP must be feeling the pressure, though you'd think a blogger linking to an AP story would drive MORE traffic to whatever medium was displaying their words.

Heheh, was just going to comment on your latest post "Kiwi Party's undemocratic referenda policy" - but realised you'd deleted it...

Got me at first too, but upon a re-read, yes it's perfectly democratic, and fair enough too.

Believe me, 10% of the electoral roll PLUS a strict audit is a huge hurdle to get democracy on an issue!

andy: I'd have more faith in referenda if the average voter paid more attention. Unfortunately, the vast majority of voters don't pay attention.

I'm happy enough we get to elect specialist representatives who DO (mostly) pay attention to the facts. If they don't we vote for some other person or party and they - individually or collectively - get the sack.

The problem with referenda the utter lack of any accountability for voters who vote in a haze of ignorance blended with unfounded faith in their own "common sense".

When I can hold to account voters who screwed up and imposed the wrong solution on me, I'll support referenda.

Not before.

Yes, I deleted the post about 20 mins after I put it up, and you know why, Perhaps I can do a satire piece on it. Wording is important when you draft policy and the Kiwi Party needs to do a bit of work on wording, perhaps.
