On Equality
Blogger Idiot Savant is a support of gay marriage and joint adoption for gay couples - because he supports equality. Fair enough. Those who don't agree with him are described as bigots. To him, equality is a matter of principle. So I ask him, when will he address the fact that gay couples are able to be treated differently to other couples - and thus get a greater amount of assistance from the state when they are unemployed or otherwise receiving a benefit? I would have thought equality would necessitate that they be treated the same as heterosexual couples rather than as two single individuals.
Strangely he is silent on this. Why?

I thought that the anomalies had been addressed. Can you be more specific?
My understanding is that a gay couple who adopt a child can get family support.Well one of htem can. But because gay couples cant jointly adopt, only one can be paid family support through work and income and there is no choice as to which one. The other parent doesn't have a say in the matter. He is treated as a something between a spouse and a flatmate.
Up to a few years ago, gay couples used to be treated like individuals and get a higher rate of benefit, which was even more unequal.
